Christy was born in the picturesque town of Smithers, British Columbia and spent her youth in Northern BC. After graduating from high school with honors distinction, she moved to the Vancouver area, where she furthered her education and work experience, before returning to her birthplace in the spring of 1994. She accepted two part-time jobs, one as a teller in a bank and the second task was creating a dental supply company from the ground up. After spending a few months doing both jobs, she left the teller position to focus full time on building the company. Eighteen months later she was offered the opportunity to buy the business from her partner. Christy took the leap into becoming a business owner. She never looked back.
Diligence, patience, trial and error, numerous sales trips and conventions and of course many loyal customers, Christy has grown the business from hand-written invoices for a handful of orders each month, to one that is fully computerized and includes an online store with 24/7 access for clients across North America.
While taking on the challenge of owning and running her business, Christy also started a small family. Her two daughters were born in Smithers, in the same hospital as their mother. They moved a few times over the years, first to be closer to family, and then to follow the girls’ father in his work, living in Prince George, Burns Lake and the current location of Kamloops, BC. A family is not complete without pets, and one cat and a small dog were present in every home, with a second, much larger dog being adopted along the way.
Time passes and leaves nothing unchanged. The girls are now young adults, university educated and moved out on their own. The pets have all gone on their way after teaching the family valuable lessons of life and loss and unconditional love. Christy is now married to her second husband, and currently pet free, as she is looking forward to some travel in the future. In her spare time, she can be found reading, studying, baking bread, gardening, getting out in nature, and as usual, thinking about ways to improve Specialty Tooth Supply.
